This vintage bone china Paragon teacup and saucer set by Paragon, by Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen, features bright flowers and yellow accents. The result is a cup and saucer both lovely and cheerful!
Officially, this Paragon pattern is known as A2854/2, but to me this wonderful pattern captures both sunlight and flowers. A blue dahlia is the centerpiece of the flower design which includes a spray of tiny red flowers, green leaves, and a light touch of grey leaves in the background. Both the cup and the saucer are accented with a yellow embossed design of tiny scallops. This beautifully conceived design was created so when the cup sits in the saucer, the yellow scalloping on the cup is picked up and "reflected" on the saucer.
The edges of both the cup and saucer are embossed with swirls of scrolls. The rims of both the cup and saucer as well as the handle and the base of the cup are edged in gold. The cup shape is fluted with a scalloped edge, and the saucer edge is scalloped. Both the cup and the saucer were part of a collection and are in excellent unused condition. There are no cracks, chips, or crazing, and the gilt edges are unworn.
The cup measures 3 ½ inches across the top and 1 ¾ inches across the base. The saucer measures 5 ¼ inches in diameter. The back stamp reads "By Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen, China Potters, Paragon Fine Bone China, England Regd" and includes the pattern number. The back stamp was used between 1957 and 1960 and again after 1963. The Paragon name was discontinued after 1992.
Every cup of tea should be a pleasure, and this cheerful cup, with its accompanying saucer, will bring sunshine to every cup of tea it holds.
