1954 Dial Soap Ad with Contest to Win an Oil Well
The full page color ad presented the readers with an opportunity to "Win an Oil Well!" and "have money flowing in for years." The ad explains that the grand prize of the "Dial Soap Jingle Contest" is the "full operating income of a producing oil well (subject to usual farmer's royalty)" which was estimated to be $12,000 the first year and then decreasing for the next 10 to 20 years. The "total may eventually run as high as $35,000." The ad did not spend much space extolling the virtues of Dial Soap. Apparently that was the purpose of the jingle contest.
The ad measures 10 ¾ by 13 ¾ inches and is in excellent vintage condition with the exception of slight age yellowing.
The reverse side of the page features an article entitled "True or False" which was advice about boys and kissing for the "Sub Deb."
What a great vintage magazine advertisement! I wonder who got the oil well and whether it really only produced a $35,000 income.
