I am pleased to offer several of the plates from the Adams Staffordshire Pottery older James Audubon series with the trillium floral border.
The Canada Goose plate is in excellent condition.
The original series of 12 plates was produced in England in the 1920's - 30's. The transfers were based upon the original Audubon paintings. Each plate was hand colored and finished by hand.
The method of transfer and coloring was highly variable. There are a lot of irregularities and minor variations. Unlike recent china, there was much hand labor and artistry involved in each piece. Several of the transfers became too worn to use - the latest plates made were blurred.
Adams reproduced this series in the 50's with a plain border, but only 8 designs were usable. When the last plates were issued, about 1968, they had a plain border, and only 5 of the original designs were made.
The plates were highly colored, and meant for display - they should not be used in contact with food.
