Sterling silver comet pin with a sleek modernist design and two carnelian stone insets. It is hallmarked J & C 925. I can find no information on this silversmith.
The pin is 2 3/4" (70mm) long. The stones are bezel set and there is a rolling or locking ring clasp on the reverse.
Modernist sterling jewelry was made in the 1930's through about 1950. The style emphasized the beauty of shape, metal and stones rather than ornamentation, and used abstract lines rather than traditional forms. It could be abstract or rocket age. Many of the early pieces, such as this one were made by individual artisans.
This a a beauty and will be if interest to both the modernist and comet pin collector.
