Scenic Hand Painted Satsuma Porcelain Brooch

An exquisite hand painted Satsuma brooch, made in Japan about 1910. It is 1 5/8" x 1 1/8". It has the characteristic cream color, with a cobalt blue border. and fine crackle in the glaze. There is landscape scene with a temple painted in cinnabar red, gold and green, highlighted with gold colored moriage. The detail is amazing.

The frame or mounting is gold colored, unmarked, and appears to be a gold wash. There is a trombone style clasp, which has some wear on the sliding portion. The brooch is backed with black velvet - I do not know if this is original, but it is professionally done.

The former owner purchased this piece in Kyoto in the 1950's. It has been worn only a few times. Condition is excellent.
