Handwoven African Basket - Zimbabwe

This basket was made by the Tonga people living in the Zambezi Valley of Zimbabwe. It was brought back from Africa by a Peace Corps volunteer in about 1977. Baskets such as these are used for holding seeds and grains. This could be a wonderful addition to your Kwanzaa table or collection of African handicrafts.

The baskets are handwoven from palm fronds dyed with native plant material. The process of basket making is a lengthy one - preparing the materials and weaving a basket may take up to 2 weeks The patterns incorporate traditional tribal symbols, but each basket is unique, with different designs created by the artisan.

I have 3 baskets. This one is 7 1/4" in diameter with light brown coloring and a seed design. All three baskets are shown together in the last photo, but this listing is for one basket only.

If you purchase more than one basket, there is no additional shipping cost.
