This is a beautiful dish found at a Southern estate. It is the Villeroy & Boch Pickle Dish in the Naif Christmas pattern. It is signed Laplau.
French folk artist Gerard Laplau's most famous work is probably the Naif series from Villeroy & Boch. He died on July 14, 2009 in France. The value of his work has steadily increased since that time.
The Naif Christmas series is one of the most desired patterns by collectors and the pickle dish is a hard-to-find item. The dish is 9" x 6 1/4" not including the small handles. The center features one of Laplau's Christmas scenes in an oval shape. The outer edge of the dish is trimmed in a wide and narrow red stripe.
The back of the dish is trademarked Depuis 1798, Villeroy & Boch, Ancienne Manufactue Imperiale et Royale Luxembourg, Naif Christmas, Vitro-Porcelaine, Garanti lave-vaisselle, Spulmaschinenfest, Dishwasher Safe. It has no issues ~ excellent condition!
