Rare 1920s Edwin M. Knowles "Roma" Child's Divided Plate

This rare plate was recently acquired from a Southern estate. It was made by the Edwin M. Knowles China Company in the 1920s under the Roma mark.

The divided child's plate is 7 1/4" in diameter. The transfers feature a camel, cat and toy soldier in a needlepoint design. There is insignificant wear to the transfers and to the red rim around the outer edge of the plate. There are no chips or cracks but crazing appears throughout the entire plate. The yellow is a bit more subdued than shown in my photographs.

The piece is made of heavy pottery with a yellow glaze and marked "Roma" on the back. According to Kovels and other pottery reference material, the Roma mark belongs to Edwin M. Knowles China Company and refers to the yellow body color. Usually these children's pieces were in sets of the plate, bowl and cup and typically sell today at $285 -$300 for the set.

This is a wonderful piece for your collection and a special gift for a special little someone!
