"Promenade En Guigue" by Carle Vernet

This is such a beautiful scene. This drawing by Carle Vernet and engraving by LeVacher is entitled "Promenade En Guigue" or Walk in Guigue. It is no doubt from a series by the artist as this one is shown as No. 4. Engravings, Lithography, Prints, etc., are not my forte so I am not sure just which this is. At the estate it was listed as a lithography. The lower left corner reads "dessine par (drawn by) Carle Vernet and the lower right corner reads "grave par (engraved by) LeVacher. Vernet's signature looks to be in the lower right corner, but not really clear. Carle Vernet was an exceptional painter and lithographer of horses and battle scenes. His equine artistry is exceptional. The framed print is 11x14 with the gold painted wood frame having a depth of 1 3/4". The colors of blue, green, burgundy and black are sharp. There are age spots along the outer border and the back has a later papering over the original back. It has a wire hanger. Overall, a beautiful piece of work for the Vernet and/or equine lover.
