This 1970s Lucite sculpture is by Hivo Van Teal. It's a breath of fresh air...and light, reflecting its environment while adding its own Modernist design to the space it's in.
The pyramid has four thick beveled triangular pieces that come together, reaching up, reflecting light all the way. The center is open from every direction...giving the sculpture a spaciousness. The thick base is signed VAN TEAL.
The sculpture measures 25 inches high (63 cm). The base is 13 by 12.5 inches. It weighs just over 16 pounds. This will be professionally packed and shipped with free domestic shipping included in the price.
This is one of Van Teal's early pieces. He opened a small studio in 1974 close to his home in Miami Beach. Initially, he specialized in Lucite (acrylic) sculpture and lighting. After an exclusive furniture representative saw his work and took it to a Miami Beach exhibit, art galleries and high-end retailers like Saks and I. Magnin began selling his sculptures. He has won many design awards. Van Teal's work today has evolved to something very different so these early works have become highly collectible.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition. Light wear is consistent with age. No notable damage.
