Trifari Sterling Ruby Red Rhinestone Necklace Earrings Alfred Philippe
The set is made of sterling silver with rock size unfoiled ruby red crystal rhinestones. They're accented with small round clear crystals and the gleaming silver in between. The color of those red rhinestones must be the definition of 'RED'...they're just hypnotic in every light.
This necklace set is a rare book piece featured on the cover and on page 19 of 'Costume Jewelry The Great Pretenders' by Kelly & Schiffer.
The necklace measures 15 1/4 inches around by 3/4 inches wide. The secure fold-over clasp is made to blend in seamlessly into the design. (It's those little details that made Philippe a jewelry genius.)
The matching clip-back earrings are flowers with sparkling clear rhinestone centers. They measure 7/8 inch. The earring backs are marked with the Crown TRIFARI hallmark and also STERLING and PAT. PEND. The necklace is faintly marked STERLING near one end and TRIFARI near the other. It's a hefty set, weighing 128.9 grams.
We see very slight expected signs of wear but no notable flaws to report. We haven't polished the pieces, leaving it to buyer to decide. Overall, the set is in excellent vintage condition. And it's very exceptional...a collector's dream. (Advertised in Harper's Bazaar in February 1946.)
