Antique Chinese Silvered Bronze Box w/ Jewel Lid - Jade & Wirework

It might have been used for tobacco, snuff or lucky charms. This old Chinese box would hold them in a most attractive way.

The box is made of what appears to be bronze (visible shining through at one edge) with an 800 silver plating. The lid is embellished with a spider web maze of fine twisting wirework and 11 cabochons of semi-precious gemstones...jade, carnelian and turquoise.

The box measures 3 1/4 by 2 3/8 inches. It's 3/4 inch thick. It weighs 4.19 ounces. The bottom is marked CHINA, a marked used during the Chinese export trade. The box dates to late 1800s to early 1900s.

The box is appropriately age-tarnished and we don't know if it would polish up. We never polish old metal as most collectors feel this would diminish the value. The stones are all intact with natural nuances and no damage. The lid closes securely with a 'snap' and the inside is clean. Overall in fine condition.
