Victorian Gold-Filled Photo Portrait Cufflinks Almost Happy Couple

Photography was an invention of the Victorian era and photographic jewelry was a way to hold friends and family near. Since the opportunity to be photographed wasn't as commonplace as it is today, a photo was a precious thing. Two photos together as a pair of cufflinks is a VERY precious thing.

These photo portraits sit in gold-filled cufflinks...a woman in one...a man in the other. We think these were probably taken to celebrate a marriage. Since people never smiled during these portrait sittings, the young couple look like they've been married for decades.

Cufflinks measure 3/4 inch across the frame. There's a twisted gold rope around the celluloid-covered photo and a ball at the other end to secure the cufflink in place. The photo images are in good condition. The cufflinks are overall in excellent condition. Circa 1880s.
