What an incredible piece of craftsmanship...and it will hold your jeans up too. This vintage Mexican Taxco belt is made ENTIRELY of 950 sterling silver. Each link is deeply etched with an Aztec design that makes the silver pattern pop against the black oxidized background.
The belt measures 38 inches long from end to end. The buckle holes are between 35 to 36 inches. This can be worn at the waist or at the hips. The many links give it some flexibility. The belt measures just under a 1/2 inch wide. It's 7/8 inch wide at the buckle.
The buckle is marked TM - 181 - 950. The 'T' for Taxco, 'M' for the silversmith, 181 for the artisan's register mark and 950 for silver content (950 out of 1000). We've seen this mark attributed to the Monteros name but aren't sure of that. Whoever the artist was certainly had the time and talent to make this outstanding work of fashion art.
The belt weighs a hefty 222 grams. It's truly a fashion statement...one that will never go out of style. It's a unique high-quality piece and, from our research, there's not another like it. In fact, we couldn't even find another Mexican belt made completely out of sterling anywhere. We imagine that after the painstaking work of making this, the silver artist might say...'That was too much work...I'm never doing that again!'. Lucky for us, this one is here as true 'wearable art'.
