When I first saw this I was thrilled, thinking I'd found the only celluloid 'ring' rhinestone necklace ever made. But before I could attempt to put it around my neck, the seller told me it was a purse handle. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't wear it but then considered the possibilities of the 'handle'. Hhmmm...black velvet, satin, metallic, beaded...you could hang just about any vintage or newly-made pouch from this handle and it would look fantastic.
The celluloid plastic is the kind they used to make those wonderful art deco bangle bracelets in the 1920s/1930s...with sparkling clear rhinestones. The rhinestones are set along the top of the handle. The knobbed ends come together and cross each other. There, you can gently pull the sides apart slightly...about one inch which is enough to slip the purse on. And you can have a variety of purses...all made to hang from this ring.
The handle measures 4 3/8 inches across...the opening is 4 inches across. It's in excellent condition with all stones bright and intact. Circa 1930.
