An all-original "BRETON BEBE" with gorgeous coloring and un-damaged celluloid, this rare Toddler is circa 1920 with blue glass eyes and most of her mohair lashes. Her head is marked "FRANCE // (eagle-head Peticolin logo) // 30 // 1" in raised lettering. Kissable and perfect, her face has feathered brows, round rosy cheeks and pursed closed mouth – rather serious for a toddler! Hair is molded and painted light-brown under her traditional child's fitted Breton cap of brocade and pleated lace with wide soft grosgrain ribbon ties in luscious red. Jointed at neck, shoulders & hips, she is quite pose-able.
Authentically costumed for Brittany/Bretagne, France, turquoise & red wool form her bodice, the black skirt has an intricate linen over-bodice stitched to the lace-edged brocade ribbon `shawl' and brocade pinner-apron~ (faded due to fugitive dye-coloring) with red grosgrain sash to tie it all together; hand-crocheted wool one-piece `sabot' and socks keep her feet warm. Such a fine example of French hand-work, and resembling a young Beccasine, Breton Bebe comes from the original family, non-smoking home. (w)
