The French company PETITCOLLIN made the finest celluloid doll heads, which resemble bisque, and this lovely circa 1925 Brother and Sister are dressed in the costumes of Alsace, France. They are in excellent all-original condition with perfect celluloid heads and hands (brother has a teeny dent in nose-tip) on firmly-stuffed cloth bodies, pin-jointed at hips and shoulders. Sister has the Petitcollin profile eagle-head logo between shoulders.
Beautiful blue glass eyes are factory-set in their sweet painted faces, with arched brows, plump rosy cheeks and open mouths with two tiny teeth. Both dolls have painted molded hair, and Sister also has a ‘marcelled’ auburn wig.
Brother and Sister wear original authentic Alsace costumes that have never been removed: Sister is in brocade and satin, with lace, sequins, fringed shawl and traditional huge black ribbon bow coiffe/hat. Brother’s suit is silk velvet (suit shows slight wear at folds), with flannel vest, cotton shirt and wonderful ‘fur’ hat. Both children wear black leatherette slip-on shoes over lacy-knit cotton socks, and they come from the original family, non-smoking home.
