10.5" Japan Mitsuore Ningyo-3 Wigs-Original Box 1910-20

Beautiful, extraordinary, very special and rare, this set is circa 1910 to 1920 from the late Meiji period (1880-1912). MITSUORE NINGYO is a Japanese "Three-Bend" doll in excellent all-original condition in her original fitted wooden box with three fancy Geisha silk-hair wigs. She is dainty perfection: inset dark glass eyes, finely-stroked brows, long nose with pierced nostrils, open mouth with carved upper teeth & tongue-tip, minute brushstrokes around her hairline and inset silk hair smoothly brushed into a bow-shaped topknot for use under the three perfectly-fitting authentic wigs. Mitsuore has silk crepe over wire to the elbows, jointed lower-waist and knees - she can kneel and sit back on her heels, staying in position with the aid of her clothing. Gofun-over-wood oval head with double chin (stiff-neck), lower arms with long pretty fingers and separate thumbs, upper & lower legs and feet (right ankle has a light hairline split in the gofun, but isn't broken), plus her torso is sexed and a piece of fine paper wraps her waist, which is traditional for these dolls for modesty-sake – she's definitely a young lady. Her first kimono is gold-dotted red silk crepe, the second is pink silk brocade, and the top kimono is silk crepe printed in shades of purple, red, shell pink, lime green and cream (some fading along the sleeves and upper-front), with a red waist wrap under her floral check-embroidered burnt-orange obi sash; blossom-embroidered red silk faille wraps her neck. Elegant and enchanting, these Mitsuore Ningyo are always a rare find, and this one is especially so with original clothing and fancy extra wigs!! FROM A NON SMOKING HOME
