Gorgeous Lenox china dinner plate circa 1931-55 in excellent condition. I have a place setting for 12 but I am selling the plates one at a time. These plates were sold at the T. M. James & sons China Co. in Kansas City Mo. They were retailer who had exclusive distributorship for Wedgwood, Haviland, Spode china, Steuben glassware, art objects & similar products in K.C.MO. They were also importers of French china.
The Lenox green wreath (which is what this plate has) was decorated at the factory between 1906-30. In 1931 the words Made in U.S.A. were added. In 1955 The wreath changed from green to gold. Lenox china was the first china used by a president at the White House & is the china that is used the most at the White House to date.
All of the plates are in excellent condition. Each plate has a wide border (1 3/4") that is what I would call a medium sea foam green in color & running down the middle of the border is a gold gilt geometric design. The rim of ea. plate is rimed in gold gilt & running around the border on the inside is more gold gilt. The middle of the plate is a very light cream in color & measures 6 3/4" across. The plate measures 10 1/2" across x 3/4" high.
T.M.James & Sons China Co. was in existence from 1863-1950 when the store was sold to Joyce Hall founder of Hallmark Cards. The store was located in downtown K.C. at Main & 6th & Delaware st. Thomas Martin James was the uncle of the infamous Jessie & Frank James. Mr James was the oldest (78) & most prominent citizen of K.C.MO. When he died in 1901 his worth was approximately one million dollars.
These plates belonged to my aunt. Evidently she never used them since they are in such excellent condition. I have never used them either-they have just been packed away for years & I have decided to finally sell them. If you should be interested in all 12 please let me know so I can adjust the shipping & insurance.
