1880s Moser Glass Compote with Hand Engraved & Enameled Grapes

Maker and Age: Moser (Bohemian); 1880s

Details: The awe-inspiring element to remember when viewing such a lovely hand blown compote is that each aspect of construction and decorating was hand created by individuals working for the Moser factory. The blowing and shaping of the glass piece itself; the forming and application of the handles and pedestal; the cutting, polishing and enameling of the scalloped rim; the extremely delicate copper wheel engraving of the grapes and grape leaves that entwine the outside of the bowl and base; the exquisite shading of the enamel that fills all the engraved designs; the application of gold leaf to form a backing to the enameled designs; the polishing of the pontil on the bottom of the base -- each and every step fashioned by the hands of a living artist.

Dimensions: 3.25 inches high and 8 inches across at the handles; bowl is 6 inches in diameter

Condition: Excellent clarity and flawless condition of the glass! Some of enamel is missing from the edges of the grape leaves; all enamel is present on the grapes.

Shipping: The compote will be shipped via USPS Priority mail with insurance. International customers, please inquire about availability and cost of insured shipping to your location.
