Here for your consideration is an Italian pottery tobacco jars, set of 2, c. unknown. The body is produced with a heavy white clay covered in a white tin glaze, decorated with understated shades of brown and gold. They are hand painted with a pastoral landscape scene of a farm house in an open meadow amongst trees, flowing rivers and flying birds. Both sides of the jar have two different scenes romanticized by pink and burgundy flowers, applied teardrop-shape handles, trimmed with line borders at the handles, top and bottom. The circular dome-shape lid is trimmed with a double line and wavy border with an applied ceramic pink and burgundy rose bud finial. They are in very good condition with no cracks, crazing, staining or repairs. There is a chip inside the lip of (1) jar and (1) lid, along with some visible glaze chips along the edges of the jar and lid. One of the jars is signed: ITALY, #917 on the bottom. SEE PHOTOS FOR DETAILS. Please feel free to request more photos of details.
