This antique majolica plate has a soft celadon green background, with very dimensional cream/gold leaves and red/burgundy flowers and strawberries circling around the rim. The contrast of the red and gold against the pale green is a complementary visual delight, and makes the embossed decoration "pop". An edging of curved and looped vines in light brown provides the finishing touch.
This plate bears the circa 1889 to 1918 mark of Arms of Lorrane wth wreaths around the shield and Made in Germany below. Sarreguemines is impressed into the back of the plate. It measures 8 inches in diameter.
There is one flaw on the surface, from its manufacture, that shows an opening below one of the cream colored vines, and is only noticed when examining closely. It has light overall crazing, typical for early pieces, and two small areas with surface rubs or top glaze loss. All very minor, and do not detract.
