Scarce quadruple plate figural toothpick holder or match holder by James W. Tufts, Boston, MA. Circa 1880 - 1890.
The enormously popular characters developed by the late nineteenth century English writer and illustrator Catherine Greenaway were known as "Kate Greenway" children and were dressed in Regency, late eighteenth century dress.
This is a very hard to find Kate Greenaway figural holder by the firm of James W. Tufts having a trademark registered from about 1875. The surface is very good showing very little wear to its silver plated surface and having no damage or restoration.
Stands approximately 4.75" tall and 4" widest. Carries impressed mark for James W. Tufts along with a number 34C4.
This high quality, scarce figural holder is in lovely condition and you will surely be delighted when you add it to your collection.
