Schloss Neuschwanstein was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle. This 19th century Romanesque Revival palace is situated on a rugged hill in southwest Bavaria, Germany. This plaque shows the castle in high relief. The colors are antique white, gold and tan.
The plate is overall 9 ½ inches in diameter and 1 ¾ inches deep. The scrolled trim is overall 1 to 1 ½ inches wide. The Josef Strnact mark is impressed on the reverse with what may be a stylized J.S. initials underneath. The castle name has been impressed on the base with the number 3157 beneath it.
The mark is the initials J.S. and a `flower' on a shield. This mark is an early one used by Josef Strnact between around 1900 and 1933. The company was founded in 1881 and produced terracotta, majolica and faience products at its factory in Austria and Germany. The company taken over by another businessman and disappeared shortly after Mr. Strnact retired in the 1930s.
Condition: The plate is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks, scratches, cracks or repairs.
