c1880s ‘Cassie Young’ Autograph Book in Extraordinary Condition

Autograph Book, Pennsylvania, c1880s Given that the owner of this autograph book, Cassie, was collecting comments and signatures between 1882 and 1901 (all but one 1882-1887), this autograph book is in extraordinary condition. The cover is excellent, with slight wear to the top and bottom of the spine. The colors are still bright and mostly still present. Inside, the cover has ever-so-slightly pulled away from the spine. The colors on the title page are very bright, and the pages have very little yellowing. The ink is somewhat faded, but still easily read. One of the stark differences is the handwriting, which is very pretty, and the language. The book measures 4" by 6 ¼".

Some of my favorite sentiments are:

May your joy be as deep as the ocean and your sorrows as light as its foam.

May peace your steps attend And virtue crown your days The Bible be your chosen friend And guard all your ways.

May each day's slow descending sun view from thy life some noble action done.

Pure as this page unmarred by stain, So be thy future free from pain. Where e'er thou goest mayst thou find, Friends true as those thou leavest behind.
