Early Tin Flat Back Cookie Cutter – Santa with Bag, 1800s

Measuring 2-3/4" by 3-3/4", this flat back cookie cutter features Santa carrying his bag of gifts. There are only four small spots where the design is soldered to the plate back, which suggests this was made earlier rather than later (perhaps early to mid-1800s). Solder was very expensive, so tinsmiths during the earlier era tended to use small spots of solder. On the other hand, this cookie cutter lacks the dark patina you expect to find, which tells me someone cleaned it at some point.
