Hand Decorated Pink Lustre Blossoms
Childs Tea Set
Davenport Staffordshire England c1850
This miniature tea set c 1850 was originally part of a complete childs tea service. The set is hand decorated with pink lustre and enamel polychrome floral motif of dahlias and other flowers painted on a creamy earthenware ground similar to Gaudy Dutch paint decorated wares. Beautiful colorful styling on a classic Davenport blank shown as Figure 107 on page 41 of Doris Lechler’s book English Toy China. The teapot stands 4 inches tall, the lidded sugar measures 3-1/2 inches tall, and the creamer stands 3 inches tall. Also included with the set is a pair of 6 inch pink lustre porcelain floral plates in a compatible motif.
The set is marked with a painted numeral 401, referencing the pattern number. It was made by the Davenport potteries in the Staffordshire England potting region c1850. The plates are marked with pattern number 9125.
The set is in very good overall condition. There is repair to one handle of the sugar, an a tiny repair to an old chip on the side of the spout. Spoon dings inside the rims and no other chips cracks or repairs. Light wear to the enamel decoration. Beautiful colorful hand painted tea wares in miniature are quite hard to find and very desirable. The pieces will make a fabulous addition to your collection of early hand painted earthenwares. Offered as is, as described.
