ANTIQUE CHILDS ALPHABET ABC MUG
O is for OTTER P is for PIGS
Staffordshire England c. 1840
This 3 1/8 " high x 3 1/8 " wide, excluding the applied handle, childrens mug is transfer printed in deep blue with a pearlware glaze.
One side has an upper case letter ~ O ~ is for Otter that swims far away.
The opposite side of the mug has an upper case ~ P ~ for the Pigs who are eating all day.
The mug sports very fancy scroll work encasing the charming images.
The mug is in very good condition except for a flea bite size glaze flake to the side of the rim. Amazing to find this very old example in such good shape.
Alphabet mugs like these were given to children as educational tools. A lovely addition to your ABC collection.
