PETER PIPER PICKED A PECK OF PICKLED PEPPERS
Designed by William Savage Cooper
Royal Doulton Staffordshire England 1905
This is an outstanding childs cup in a colorful polychrome transfer printed pattern. The little mug stands 2 3/4” tall made of porcelain with brown printing and multicolor details and gilt rim. Part of Royal Doultons Nursery Rhymes series ware Series A, designed by the heralded British artist and illustrator William Savage Cooper (1880-1926) in 1903.
The mug shows a boy cleaning peppers. The reverse side recites the rhyming tongue twister:
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers; A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked; If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, Where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
This rare little mug is in great condition, with no chips cracks or repairs. Wear to the gilt rim and foot rim and slight wear to the decorative picture. A delicious example of a whimsical nursery rhyme to add to a collection. We have also listed companion plate from the Royal Doulton Nursery Rhymes series to mix and match.
