EARLY CHILDS TRANSFERWARE PLATE

This is a 7 1/4 " child's transferware Alphabet plate , circa 1840. The plate is light weight and beautifully potted with a pearlware glaze.
It is transfer printed in Brown with green striping and hand painting under the glaze in earthy tones. The transfers show far sighted people saving for their future as well as those who did not.

The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Staffordshire district. Plates like this were made as gifts for good children and rewards of merit, used to aid in children's education and moral training, and to encourage their imaginations in the early to mid-19th century.
Never Used and in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. Very clean and bright.
