Antique German Oil Lamp with Lithophane Shade
This is a rare and unusual item. It is an antique porcelain oil lamp with a shade that has different lithophane panel scenes. First the base; it is white porcelain decorated with beautiful hand painted roses, garlands and bows. The body of the lamp sits on a base and can be used without the base. It was converted to electric but the original top is there so a lamp man could put it back to a wick if desired. The shade has 5 Antique German porcelain lithophane panels. All are incised PPM made by Prensaich Porzellan Germany c1860 - 70. The lithophanes are in very good condition, no damage. One panel is plain white, perhaps it was meant to face the wall or it may be a replacement. The lithophanes measure 5 1/2 at the base x 5" tall. The shade frame has a few small breaks and some spot welding which is expected but is still stable and holds the lithophanes well.
The total height is 24" when it is on its base. An amazing old lamp, I have never seen another. Individual panes can fetch $200 each.
