English Windsor Pattern Sauce Tureen * circa 1907 * by Enoch Wood & Sons

English Enoch Wood & Sons' sauce tureen with ladle and lid in cobalt blue, rust and gold trim on a glossy white semi-porcelain back drop in the Windsor pattern is being offered for your consideration. The set is in excellent condition with 95% or better of the gold trim remaining and only a few of the lightest utensil marks that must be view by tilting the piece just right to a light source. The gravy tureen measures 8 1/2 inches long handle to handle, 5 inches wide and 4 1/2 high from the base to the top of the final; the ladle measures 7 1/4 inches long and the bowl of the ladle is 3 inches in diameter. There are no chips or cracks; there are the era typical stilt marks, some light crazing, dust bumps, glaze skips and firing flaws. This set does have 3 small firing flaws, they are not readily seen. Firing flaws often occur at the time the white ware is subjected to the high heat of the kiln, when the piece is glazed, the glaze 'runs' into and over the flaw and forms a smooth surface/edge, this can be seen with magnification and cause no structural concerns. The ones on this set are all on the lid; one less than a 1/4 inch long and it is under the lip of the lid ( it cannot be seen with the lid in place ). The other two are quite faint, but visible on very close inspection and are where the handle has been attached to the lid during its production. These are anomalies of the era's pottery production techniques and are seen on close inspection of many 19th and early 20th century pottery wares. This a beautiful addition to compliment any gourmet meal/buffet and is a much sought after piece to complete your Windsor pattern!
