Staffordshire gilded transferware covered asparagus platter or boote' in the stunning teal / blue green Corsica pattern by John Maddock & Sons of Staffordshire, England is being offered for your consideration.
To find one of these rare serving pieces is cause enough for excitement, to find one in excellent condition, as well, is special indeed and cause for a celebration! This beautiful blue-green color is often referred to in reference books as a variation of flow blue.
The platter has a tree and well embossing for draining the liquid away from the asparagus; it also has feet on the bottom which tilts the platter to aid in the draining of any liquid. The ample platter portion measures 12 1/2 by 9 inches. The lid measures 10 by 7 inches and from table to top of the finale is 3 1/4 inches. The mark indicates production between 1880 and 1896. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines and the glaze is bright white and shiny; any discoloration in the photos is shadowing and effects of the lighting. There are era typical anomalies; stilt marks, glaze pits, dust 'bumps, glaze skips and small iron flecks. Some light age appropriate crazing is present and remarkably 75-80% of the gilding remains. This would be a fabulous gift for the discerning collector in your life ( yourself perhaps? )! (1180Z-5100)
Please note: The asparagus used in the photograph are faux and are oversized.
