I have to admit, I've had this gorgeous pottery vase for a while now while I attempted to identify it's origins, but I'm not well versed in the world of art pottery and it's maker eludes me.
This stunning piece has such grace and character, I just love the shape of the mouth and spout of the piece atop the bulbous form and hooked handle. The decoration is hand painted and features stunning red and yellow flowers on a dark brown background. I believe this pitcher dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s and was probably produced in Europe based on the form and style.
The base of the pitcher is marked DAS in gold letters, as well as N and the number 1494. The pitcher measures 9" tall and 5 1/2" in diameter. In excellent condition this piece has no chips, nicks or cracks. It does have some fine allover crazing but this is barely visible on the dark surface.
