RARE Mabie Todd Chatelaine Pencil, 14K Solid Gold 1840-1859
The pencil operates simply by pulling open and pushing closed from the center. You can use the hanging bale to attach it to a key ring on the golf course when you're not wearing it around your neck.
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition with no worn areas or damage to note. Very light historic wear. Markings: MABIE TODD & Co 14K. Tested to confirm 14K. A very nice heft. Weight by scale: 7.3 grams by scale. Circa 1840's-1859, of American origin.
* Mabie, Todd was one of the most distinguished & long lived Makers of fine writing instruments. They began making dip pins and mechanical pencils in New York City in the 1840's. By 1860 the name was changed to Mabie Todd & Bard. Around 1920 Swan bought into the company and it was again renamed as Swan, Mabie Todd.
