A beautiful hand painted enamel miniature from the early 19th century is mounted in a later 18K frame set with 35 intense Pink Sapphires. This is the 2nd of the 2 we recently purchased from the Jeweler's estate.
The piece measures 1.5" x 1" (excluding the Sapphires set bale) and comes with an 20" 18K complimentary chain.
CONDITION: The Georgian miniature is charming and portrays a young lady in Empire dress with a powdered coiffure. Elaborately detailed with raised gilt. The painting is backed by what looks to be a flattened silver/lead bullet plaque impressed with an arrow and number. Mount & chain are 18K, 20th century Sapphires: 35, round faceted, Intense Pink, Sl/P/Pnk4-4. Clarity MI-H11. 1.40 carats by gauge & formula. Weight by scale including the chain: 12.80 grams. I cannot accurately date this piece except to say the portrait is Georgian (early 19th century) and the mount is 20th century. The ring link chain is traditional, but a newer addition with a lobster clasp. Markings: 18K (on the pendant) 750 on the clasp of the chain.
A current gemological appraisal is available for this piece. Retail replacement is estimated at $7375.
