A fabulous Bronze Ormolu enameled music box comes in the form of a Harpsichord/Grand Piano with a matching stool.
Four exquisitely rendered enamels (3 on the Harpsichord and 1 on the top of the stool) depict neoclassical courtly love scenes in vividly colored rich pastels. The Harpsichord is beautifully detailed and clad in ornate ormolu bronze.
Measuring 7" long, it is 4.25" wide and stands 3.75" high with the lid closed.
The top of the Grand opens to reveal the music box works and probably once hid a treasured jewel or two in the open space, but at present holds just the winding key and the original paper Program to include 1) Dollarprinzessin (The Dollar Princess) which is printed and now very faint and hard to read & 2) Troubadour (in script.) The framed enamel cover lifts to expose the keyboard and yet another fine enamel.
CONDITION: Very fine antique condition with no damage or restoration to note. Stands firm and straight. All hinges are secure & everything opens and closes as it should with no warping. The ormolu or dore finish remains primarily bright with expected darkening where the covers close. Keyboard shows some slight fading on the blacks. Music operates well. Bellows are loud and clear. Key is fully functional. Markings: Austria (on the underside.)
A rare and wonderful find for the most discriminating collector.
