Gold Gilt Mirror with Candle Cups
Check out this wonderful Federal style gold leaf mirror with candle holders. Amazingly, the gilt is in excellent original condition. The pediment has classic Federal ornamentation. There is a tall flame torch finial with shafts of wheat, rosettes with bellflowers and acanthus leaves. Look very closely and you will see a ½" loss at the base of the left whet shaft. The round mirror retains its original glass which has only 3 minor specks of silver loss. Notice the traditional use of wire to support the pair of candle cups. Look closely and you will see some slight gold loss on the wire – all to be expected and does not detract at all. The use of acanthus leaves and bellflowers is repeated at the base of the mirror. There are several stress marks in the ornaments, which is to be expected, but all are secure and not compromised. What a wonderful period looking mirror of great quality. 44"h X 22.5"w X 7"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1920.
