Walnut Victorian Parlor Cabinet, Possibly Allen Brothers

What a phenomenal walnut Victorian parlor cabinet! Furniture of this form were popular in 1860's to the 1880's and were meant to store or display your finest in your main parlor. These cabinets were works of art and only the finest homes could afford them. This cabinet was most likely made by Allan and Brothers of Philadelphia, Pa. They were custom furniture manufacturers for many of the prominent families in Philadelphia during their time. The walnut is highlighted with ebonizing. The door displays 3 bronze plaques. The top plaque depicts 3 putti playing musical instruments. The larger central plaque is the profile of a Greek or Roman male figure. The smaller bottom plaque displays 2 playful putti. All plaques are skillfully and realistically executed. The depth and detail are superb. Notice the carved foliate design on the top corners of the door and the prominent egg and dart carving framing the door. In addition, there are 4 shallow relief scrolling designs on the door. There are additional cast bronze decorations of maidens on the canted sides of the door and outside edges of the cabinet. The proud cornice above the door and the top gallery on the side shelves are boldly and deeply carved. The curved side shelves are backed with mirrors. The cabinet rests on decoratively carved and ebonized round feet. All have their original casters. Inside the door are 3 adjustable shelves. The cabinet has an older refinish and is in excellent condition. There is a 1/8" wide trim measuring 4" long that is missing on the bottom left of the door and a leaf carving missing on the top left side of the door. Neither is obvious and is only noticeable upon close inspection. This handsome cabinet could be the centerpiece of your home's d├ęcor. 55.75"h X 61"w X 21.5"d, Condition: Excellent, Circa: 1860-1870's.
