William Lester Stevens Oil Painting of a Summer Afternoon Landscape

This great landscape titled “Summer Afternoon” was painted by artist William Lester Stevens (1888-1969). Stevens was born in Rockport, Massachusetts, where he lived most of his life. He is one of the most well known artists from the Boston area, studying under known names such as Frank Benson and William Paxton and by 1964, had won more awards than any other living artist. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, titled on label from Grand Central Art Galleries in New York on reverse. Dimensions: 30” h x 36” l, actual; 35 ½” h x 41 ½” l, framed.
