Interesting 1863 still life painted by George E. Forster (German/American, 1817-1896) featuring cracked egg, snail, fruit, goblet, bird's nest, and fly. Signed and dated lower left. Oil on panel with original frame. Dimensions: 8" x 10" (unframed); 15" x 17.25" (framed). George Forster was born in Bavaria, Germany and came to New York in 1865 with his wife and children. The artist occasionally exhibited under the name "Foster," a common misspelling of his surname. Forster is known for his ability to portray texture in his paintings and his common combination of fruit and animals.
