Nice vintage hand painted tin glazed pottery candlestick in the Rococo style of the mid 1700s. Originally had two of these candlesticks, but sold one and so there is just one remaining at this time. This candlestick is not old and was made in Italy in the mid to late 1900s (between 15 and 45 years ago). The stick is molded and hand finished. It has three bracketed segments on its base that continue up the stem and across the candle socket. The molded designs in relief include C-scrolls and feather-like motifs along with shell edging and scalloped petals (see all photos). The enamel color palette on the candlestick mimics the grand feu colors (high temperature cobalt blue, copper green and iron pinkish-red)) common back in the 18th century. But as noted above, this is not an antique candlestick and is instead a nice reproduction of much older examples. The bases have printed makers mark that looks like `MMA' with one in blue (this one sold) and the other in black (the black mark also has Italy below it). Some MMA letters molded on reproduction refer to reproductions authorized by the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, however I am not sure that this is the same case here (I think these marks may refer to the Italian company that made these candlesticks).
These candlesticks were intended to look like delftware and faience where the glaze is tinged opaque bluish white. One can see this on the base of the blue printed MMA example where the light buff clay contrasts with the bluish tinted glaze. Finally, these candlesticks have been used previously and so there is some wax in the candle cups and on the bases. As noted above, there is only one stick left, and it would make a nice gift for the romantic who enjoys eating by candlelight as well as for the person looking for a special gift or wedding present or for the decorator seeking that special ambiance of hand painted faience. And as always, the remaining faience candlestick here also comes with my Docs Antiques full satisfaction guarantee or you may return your purchase using my return policy for a refund (see below for all details).
SIZE: Each candlestick stands just under 8 inches tall and measure a maximum of 4 5/8 inches across at the foot (base). The candle cups are a little over 1 inch across at the rim and then narrow to about 3/4 inches wide at the bottom. Each candle cup is about 3/4 inches deep and has some older wax adhering on the inside. The remaining candlestick would look nice decorating a mantle, or placed on a table or side table and will certainly capture attention in most any setting.
CONDITION: The remaining candlestick is also in excellent condition with no production defects and absolutely no chips, hairlines, stains, repairs or restorations. If the buyer is not completely satisfied, then she/he may return their purchase for a refund (see my refund policy for all details as noted below).
SHIPPING: All US mainland buyers pay $8.80 for well packed and insured USPS Priority Mail (this is an estimated savings of about $1 to $2 since insurance & tracking are also INCLUDED in this amount for all mainland US addresses). No handling or packing fees are ever charged and fragile items are double packed for maximum protection. All international buyers will pay only the exact shipping costs for all verifiable locations outside the continental US mainland. Please note that import duties, taxes and other charges are not included in the item price or shipping costs and these additional charges are the Buyer's responsibility. We do offer a petition for VAT relief on the behalf of the buyer which may help reduce certain import taxes should your country allow such petitions for items over 100 years old. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to purchasing this item -- thanks.
RETURN POLICY: Satisfaction and peace of mind are guaranteed for all Docs Antiques Ruby Lane listings -- please refer directly to our Service Pledge and our Return Policy for full details. And this means that if you are unhappy with your purchase, then you may return it by sending the item back undamaged and post marked within seven days of original receipt for a refund (certain shipping costs are non-refundable). Items damaged during shipping are covered by insurance and while this rarely happens because we double box, we will gladly help you file your insurance claim should it ever be necessary (to date, we have had only two claims for damage from shipping in over eight years; each was caused by USPS mishandling the box). Of course, never send an item back that was damaged by shipping since that will void the original insurance. Instead, contact us for help and we will gladly assist.
PAYMENT OPTIONS: We accept checks on US Banks (no temporary checks, all checks must have 9 digit routing code; item ships after check fully clears), USPS money orders, PayPal or contact us with your verified address for more options. If you wish to use a credit card by way of PayPal, that option becomes available after you submit a Ruby Lane purchase order (see Terms of Sale for additional information). Once submitted, a PayPal icon will appear at the bottom of this listing and then you may proceed from there if you wish to pay via PayPal. Thanks for looking and do come back and visit again when you have the time.
