A fine 1/6 plate daguerreotype of a mother and daughter. The mother is dressed with a shawl over a printed cotton dress and her daughter is in a wool dress and jacket.
The 1850s image is sharp, with excellent detail. The image has no detectable damage, scratches or scuffing.
It is mounted under the original mat and keeper, both in excellent condition, with the original seal. There is therefore some minor tarnishing around the edges.
The mat is embossed 'Appleby' in the top right corner.
The embossed leather half case is in average condition.
Any reflections apparent on the photos are not on the actual image.
A fine example of a daguerreotype taken by one of three Appleby's mentioned in the directory. One was in Wilmington Del. another was in St Louis MO and the third was, which is most likely, is Richard Appleby who photographed in Rochester NY from 1850-1859.
Overall Size approx 3.75x3.25ins (9.5x7.5cms)
