INCOMPARABLE Regency Picture Agate/Pinchbeck Demi-Parure in Original Fitted Case, Earrings & Brooch, c.1815!

ON LAYAWAY for Carmel - many thanks!

Dating to 1810-1820, this magnificent English demi-parure has survived into the 21st century in outstanding condition, and is still housed in its original silk- and velvet-lined leather case!

Rarely does Regency-era jewelry translate so well into the present day; this pair of picture agate and pinchbeck earrings and matching brooch are outstanding, highly-wearable classics! The drop earrings measure a perfectly-proportioned 1 3/4" long from the bend in their 15k ear wires x 5/8" at their widest point, and each holds a gorgeously-figured picture agate cabochon! These cabochons are a perfect combination of dark brown and milky white, with the tiny, black "branch-like" inclusions characteristic of these gemstones. Each cabochon is collet-set with dozens of intricately-wrought scallop-motif claws, and are framed with graceful scrolls of pinchbeck filigree and beadwork!

The matching brooch measures 1 3/8" x 1 1/8", is also set with a stunning picture agate cabochon, and is framed identically to the earrings. The brooch is also in mint condition, and retains its steel pin and "T and C" clasp. Georgian jewelry simply does not get any fresher than this; these jewels are just as beautiful today as when they were first worn by a lady of fashion during the Regency era, and the detail and workmanship is superb! Clearly, this set has been meticulously cared-for over the past 10 generations; even its gilt-stamped leather, silk and velvet fitted case is in amazing condition!

Typically, jewels of this quality would have been set in high-karat gold, but during the Napoleonic Wars (1795-1815), gold was incredibly scarce and often unavailable, particularly in England. The pinchbeck settings gave the look and heft of 20k gold, and a set such as this would have been treasured by even the wealthiest of ladies.

These picture agates are not your typical examples; the light areas of the stones boast a subtle chatoyancy which adds even more depth and dimension to these beauties! The muted colors are neutral enough to wear with almost any outfit, and one could easily dress this set up or down with the addition of other gold jewelry. This demi-parure will take you from the office to the theatre in high style, and is certain to become a prized staple of your antique jewelry wardrobe!

Weighing in at 7.26 grams for the earrings and 9.07 grams for the brooch, this very versatile demi-parure will thrill the most discerning collector, or make a fabulous gift for any lady fond of the best in historic, investment-worthy jewels. Of course, the earrings and brooch will be shipped its fitted box, which adds even more inherent value to this covetable set. Do not miss this gorgeous Regency demi-parure; it is priced for fast sale, up to 60-day layaway is available, and USPS Priority shipping is FREE!
