SPLENDID Large & Ornately-Engraved Victorian Sterling Locket, c.1880!
Measuring a grand 2 1/4" long with its original bail x 1 3/8" wide, this high-Victorian silver locket has survived the past 130+ years in excellent condition! The front of this locket is especially beautiful; it is deeply hand-engraved with a fleur-de-lis in the center of swags and strap work which extend to the sides of the jewel! It also boasts lovely engraved sprigs between the swags. This design would have perfectly complimented the sumptuous-yet-tailored fashions of the early 1880s. Best of all, it is just as wearable today as when it graced the neck of a lady of fashion all those generations ago!
Likely American in origin, the front and back of this lovely locket is blissfully free from dents or dings. Although unmarked, it tests to sterling grade silver, and the locket opens and snaps shut with a satisfying "click!" The inside of the locket retains its original silver inner frames as well as its original blue satin inserts, but the glass crystals are missing. It would be easy to find replacements, as these lockets were made to standard sizes, or to have your own crystals cut for very little cost; nevertheless, I have set my price with this in mind. The otherwise near-mint condition of this example still makes it highly-desirable, and consummately wearable!
Weighing in at 15.16 grams, this locket would look stunning whether worn on a silver rope chain, a Victorian silver book chain, or a simple black velvet ribbon around the neck! If you collect the finest in Victorian silver jewelry, this fine locket belongs in your collection! It would also make a romantic gift for any lady fond of the best in antique lockets, and will be shipped in a gift box suitable for giving or storing. Do not miss this heirloom-worthy beauty; it is priced for quick sale, and USPS Priority shipping is FREE!
