GRACEFUL Georgian Faceted Silver Lyre-Motif Fob Seal/Pendant w/Maker's Mark, c.1830!
Measuring a grand 1 3/4" tall with its original pin-set bail x 7/8" wide, this fob seal epitomizes all that is so grand about the jewelry of the 1830s! Wrought from .900 grade silver (unknown maker's mark "MI" and "4"; tested), this lovely Continental European jewel boasts uniquely-faceted elements that recalls the cut steel jewelry of the era, and takes the form of a Neoclassical lyre!
This seal is completely hand-crafted, and is covered in tool marks where the silver facets were hand-smoothed and polished. This is a stately, three-dimensional piece which shows careful attention to detail, and the scale of the jewel makes it perfect for wear on a silver chain or black ribbon around the neck! Alternatively, it will add dash and history to any silver watch chain! The base of the seal measures 1" x 3/4", and was never engraved - it is just waiting for your own monogram!
Suitable for wear by a lady or a gentleman, this fob seal represents a triumph of silver work in an era which was just beginning to feel the effects of the mass-production of the Industrial Revolution on the jewelry trade. It is in 100% all-original condition, without losses or repairs, and the silver has built up a luscious patina over the past 180+ years. (Of course, it could easily be polished up to its original shining glory if the new owner desires, but I prefer to leave the age patina on all of my jewelry, as it is a testament to its great age). This fob seal weighs a substantial 15.84 grams.
Simply a rare example of Georgian silver jewelry, this fob will delight the most discerning collector, or will make a stellar holiday gift for anyone who loves early fob seals or lyre-motif jewels. It will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving, Do not miss this lyrical rarity; it is priced for quick sale, and USPS Priority shipping is FREE!
