Dating to c.1790-1800, these Georgian diamond earrings are proof that fabulous things can come in small packages!
Measuring 5/8" long with their 15k gold ear wires, these lovely earrings are so precious, and are a highly desirable example of Georgian jewelry! The earring drops measure 1/2" long x 3/8" wide, and are set with a total of eight sparkling rose-cut diamonds set in pushed-up, foiled closed-back mountings of sterling silver (all materials unmarked but tested).
By the 1790s, earrings were very small in scale to harmonize with the growing popularity of Neoclassical fashions. These earrings are perfectly in keeping with the jewelry of the decade. I have taken a good, long look at these jewels through 10x magnification, and I do not believe that these earrings were adapted from a larger piece; I see no sign of file marks at the tops or bottoms!
These-cut diamonds are truly lovely; there are eight in all! The larger, slightly pear-shaped diamonds measure 3.5 mm x 2 mm and 4 mm x 3 mm and weigh approx. 10 and 12 points respectively, although they "face up" much larger. The smaller diamonds weigh 1-2.5 points each. All of these diamonds are full rose-cuts, not melees or chips. These stones are in excellent condition; one has a mild surface scratch, but this is only visible under high magnification. The only alteration are the 15k Victorian-era kidney-style ear wires, likely added c.1860.
Simply a stellar pair of Georgian diamond earrings, these beautiful jewels are perfect for everyday wear, and the diamonds have that deep, internal shimmer that only early rose-cut diamonds can impart! These jewels have not been cleaned, and the silver has built up a fabulous patina that only the passing of centuries can impart! Weighing in at 2.4 grams for the pair, these charming jewels will light up your ears and your collection!
If you love the best in Georgian jewelry, you cannot do better than this! These earrings will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving. Do not miss these petite beauties; I am pricing them for quick sale, and USPS Priority shipping is FREE!
