STATELY William IV Gold Cased/Rock Crystal Fob Seal, c.1835!
Measuring 1 1/4" tall x 7/8" wide, this beautifully-preserved fob seal is head and shoulders above the majority of fob seals on the market, and is just waiting to be worn as an impressive pendant by a lady or on a watch chain by a gentleman! This fob has features that blend Georgian Neoclassical style with the larger, more ornate Romantic style coming into fashion during the late 1830s. It features a fluted bail, fluted and ribbed hand-hold, starburst top, and deeply chased and engraved base!
But wait - the real star here is the seal itself! Measuring 7/8" x 5/8", this seal is magnificently carved from rock crystal, and foiled at the back for extra blaze and beauty! This seal is expertly cut and faceted, and has not been engraved. The cut of the stone itself is quite unusual, as it boasts step-cuts descending from a large table, and scissor cutting beneath!
Like most fob seals of the era, this jewel is crafted from copper gilt which is heavily cased in 15k gold. It has not been cleaned, and the gold boasts a gorgeous "bloom" which only the passing of 175+ years can impart. Of course, it could easily be polished up to its original glory if the new owner so desires, but I prefer to leave the age patina on all of my jewelry, as it is a testament to its history. This substantial fob seal weighs an impressive 14.1 grams.
This fob looks splendid worn on a medium-weight gold chain, or would really glow on the watch chain of the discerning gentleman. It is in 100% all-original condition, and the rock crystal seal is MINT! If you collect the best in Georgian or Victorian jewelry, this beauty belongs around your neck and in your collection! It would also make a wonderful gift for anyone fond of fine early jewelry. This fob seal will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving. Do not miss this handsome jewel; it is priced for quick sale, and USPS Priority shipping is FREE!
