ENVIABLE Pre-Georgian Rose-Cut Diamond/Silver Drop Pendant, c.1690!
This spectacular, super-early jewel is a rare survival as well as a wearable treasure! Measuring 3 1/8" from the top of the original bail x 1 3/8" at the widest point, this large jewel is constructed with four diamond-set elements - a bail with a single rose-cut diamond, a floral medallion set with 9 rose-cut diamonds, a Sevigne bow set with 13 rose-cut diamonds, and a pendant drop set with 3 additional rose-cut diamonds! That adds up to 26 glittering rose-cut diamonds in all, weighing a total of approx. 1/2 carat!
The three largest diamonds weigh approx. 7 points each. The other diamonds weigh 1-2 points each. All of the diamonds are original and intact, and are set rubbed-over, foil-backed mountings of sterling-grade silver with the "pillow" backs typical of jewels pre-dating 1780 (unmarked but tested). Best of all, this jewel has survived the past 300+ years in exquisite condition!
This pendant is likely French or Italian in origin; the structured Sevigne bow denotes a late 17th-century date. (After 1720, Sevigne bows are more fluid in design.) This jewel has wonderful movement, and a very early and rich patina! It could easily be polished up to its original shining glory if the new owner so desires, but I would strongly advise against it; for as most collectors know, the patina adds value to the jewel, and is a testament to its great age.
This pendant weighs in at 12.3 grams, and looks gorgeous worn on a silver chain or a black ribbon around the neck! I have owned this pendant for over a decade, and whenever I wore it, I received compliments galore! Needless to say, jewels of this era are very, very hard to come by on the open market. Here is a chance to an investment-worthy example that is wonderfully wearable, and offered at a dealer-friendly bargain price!
If you collect the best in early diamond jewelry, you will be hard pressed to find another diamond and silver pendant as fine as this one.
