SO LOVELY Transitional Late Georgian/Early Victorian Citrine & 15k Gold Earrings, c.1835!
Measuring 1 1/2" long with their original shepherd's hook wires and 3/4" wide, these charming earrings are a wonderful combination of golden gemstones and 15k gold! These jewels epitomize the Romantic style of the late 1830s; they are smaller in proportion than the earrings of the early 1830s, yet they have all of the best qualities of late Georgian-era jewelry, while anticipating the softer styles of the 1840s. The earring frames are constructed from heavy stamped 15k yellow gold, and boast loads of dimension with their elegant scrolls (unmarked but tested).
The center of each earring features a wonderful, fancy-cut oval citrine weighing approx. 3 1/2 carats! These gemstones are set in rubbed-over, open-backed claw and collet frames. These stones are lively and in excellent condition, without chips or signs of wear. There appears to be a very slight disparity between the color of the citrines; one is a tiny bit deeper in color, but this is not uncommon in earrings of this period, and I believe that both stones are original. This difference is not noticeable when worn, and did not bother me in the least when I discovered these lovely jewels.
Weighing in at 4.9 grams for the pair, these 175+ year old jewels are in superb condition, with no alterations or damage to the gold frames or ear wires. They really light up on the ear, and will look especially beautiful worn with the warm autumn colors of your wardrobe! When I acquired these, I was very tempted to keep them for my own collection, but one cannot keep it all!
If you collect the best in early 19th-century jewelry, these WIlliam IV charmers belong in your collection! These earrings will be shipped in a gift box suitable for storing or giving. Do not miss them; they are priced for quick sale!
